Evidence-based interventions to improve participation and quality of life in children with vision impairment: systematic review and meta-analysis

Visual impairment in children is known to cause developmental delays, participation restrictions, and reduced quality of life.

The purpose of this systematic review is to synthesize evidence for various types of interventions for children with a vision impairment that aim to improve skills and behaviour, thereby improving participation and quality of life.

Potential studies will be identified through searches in relevant literature databases. Studies will be categorized into randomized controlled trials (RCT), non-RCTs, and before-after comparative intervention studies. Methodological quality will be assessed, outcomes will be quantitatively summarized in a meta-analysis and sources of heterogeneity will be explored.

The systematic review will provide insight into (research gaps in) effective interventions which will lead to a research agenda from a scientific perspective. The research agenda will be further prioritized with rehabilitation professionals and client representatives.
